While DSL is much faster than dial up, it does have some drawbacks. DSL is not like dial up in one critical way. DSL is ON 24 hours a day, so you are exposed to the negative side of the Internet much more than when you were just dialing in and then disconnecting. When we talk about the negative side of the Internet, we are referring to viruses, spam and hackers. You can protect yourself, it just take a little knowledge and some time to educate yourself. Please, read the pages below to learn what you can do to keep your Internet experience as enjoyable as possible.
We have upgraded our mail servers with all new antivirus software and a new and improved SPAM filter that we are offering on all NortheastNet mail accounts for no additional charge. While we do our best to help protect you and your family, it is impossible to filter viruses and spam 100%. For this reason, we highly recommend that you keep each of your personal computers up to date with virus and spam filtering software.
For information on our dial up internet services please explore the Dial Up page. This page will be your portal to needed information concerning all Internet related news and happenings. Keep posted on all new virus outbreaks, read articles on how to keep your PC tuned for optimal performance and download free software.
If you need support for your Internet service please review the Internet FAQ and the DSL FAQ and read the information on our Support page before you call. |
